This year, Endeavor is also offeing an intermediate level class called Family Dog - Level 2.
Family Dog - Level 2, is for those who have successfully completed Endeavor's Beginning Family Dog obedience class, or whose dogs have a good level already of basic obedience. The objective of this class is to take the handlers to the next level of fluency by improving reliability and responsiveness in even more distracting situations.
The graduation test for both beginning and intermediate is a walk downtown to test the skills learned during the previous weeks. Successful students and dogs from Beginning Family Dog may continue on to Level 2 training.
For Family Dog level 2 students, their downtown walk will be incorporated with a Canine Good Citizen, CGC test. Successful completion will result in a CGC certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Endeavor Dog Obedience Classes
Endeavor dog obedience classes are not your usual dog obedience classes. Classes are taught out and about the county where students experience a variety of real world distractions and problems. Students, in addition to learning to sit, down, come, and stay are taught how to handle those real world situations while out and about in Los Alamos training with a qualified instructor. Dogs of any age and level of training are welcome. Classes will cost $105.00, and are held on Saturday afternoons, 4:00pm to 5:00 or 5:30 p.m., for six weeks starting April 28. Course book is Beginning Family Dog Training by Patricia McConnell.
President and Training Director of Endeavor explains, "Problems and issues, most people have with their pets do not happen in a classroom atmosphere, People need to know how to handle their animals in real life situations. This in turn will make for well-behaved pets, that people can take out in public with confidence." Training locations vary from week-to-week to come across the widest variety of distractions and situations as possible. One session may be held in a park, another in the middle of downtown, one on a neighborhood street, possibly one on the trails, one in the stable area.
Endeavor instructors are competitors who while having fun take their training seriously. All instructors have titled dogs in various venues, regularly compete, and attend training and behavioral seminars several times a year. Endeavor also expects students to have fun while taking their training seriously. Classes will be kept small, no more than 6-8 students per instructor.
By the end of the session students should have a basic understanding of dog behavior and how dogs learn, and have dogs that are well on the way to behaving reliably. The student should also a good understanding of dog etiquette, responsible dog ownership and Los Alamos county animal ordinances. The final class will be a graduation exercise that tests the students ability to handle real world situations as well as the students understanding of good, safe, and fair training practices.
